Hey! It's kind of a longshot that anyone will be on here to see this but: They are making a movie about Lincoln's assassination as well!

I think that, because of this class, I now look at the world and can see vampires everywhere. A strange thing to think, but honestly, I was watching Tangled and found myself thinking of the vampiric elements in the disney movie. Or even throughout…

Usually, darkness is used to represent the things that we are scared of or do not want other people to see. I like how you describe the night life at that bar as beautiful. It makes me think that we just have to embrace ourselves, all of ourselves,…

Hahaha, yeah, the movie was worse than I remembered, but hey, it was the 80's. Not a whole lot of good came out of that decade, lol. I thought it was representative of the era though, as it was the evolving form of humor for our current era.…

Watch Daybreakers and you'll think different of (most) vampires, Brandon. While they may be humanized, you must remember the origin of a vampire: a human. It only makes sense for it to retain many of its former characteristics. Even having…

I think it's interesting that that night, you were among the social others, but became an other yourself.  Regardless of who you are, I truly believe everyone has the potential to be, at least once in their life, the other.  The…

Daybreakers

For our film circle, our group decided to watch/discuss the film "Daybreakers" starring Ethan Hawke and other delectable individuals. Many different themes/notions popped up during the film, and while most of you aren't in our film circle, I feel compelled to share my knowledge with you. *WARNING! WARNING! SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT! IF YOU DON'T LIKE PEOPLE SPOILING MOVIES FOR YOU/WIKIPEDIA, THEN DON'T READ ANYMORE! WARNING!* Vampirism is regarded in many different ways depending on the specific…See More

I don't know that I would agree that vampires appeal only to females. Twilight has definitely affected the mainstream idea of vampires, but there is still a market for male fantasized versions of vampires. The Underworld films weren't all…

Final Thoughts?

Throughout this class we have read and discussed several things that I probably never thought I’d be reading or discussing in any class. However, I really think it’s given us all a new way of looking at not only the standard vampire story and its variations, but even at other stories that don’t directly involve vampires. I think it will be pretty useful to be able to look at works of fiction in this way because I think it’s pretty obvious that there probably won’t ever be a time where there…See More

My boyfriend is in an advertising class, this semester, that is focusing significantly on how to advertise to different genders in American television (so speaking in terms of t.v. commercials, here).  So, to put it lightly, I've been…

Bryce, since we watched this movie together, I have to fully agree with you. It was very interesting watching this at the end of the semester because after everything that we've read and watched and discussed I feel that I'm pretty well…

Creatures of the Night

The dark makes us act different. It makes us bolder through a level of anonymity. People go to their day jobs and put on a mask because it’s where judging eyes see you most clearly.A few years ago, I went to a bar in Detroit and I witnessed an underground that I had never experienced before, or really since. It was very dark, and the so-called “freaks” came out to play. People were sitting in close to pitch black in the corners, I saw transgenders dressed in corsettes, a couple that was dressed…See More

It's interesting to me that you're comparing the characteristics of a vampire to "deepest impulses of human nature, the ones buried beneath our civilized veneer..." because, I too, agree that vampirism seems to play on animal…

The People

The people that I want to focus on are Oskar and Hakan. They are Eli's human companions. Hakan is about 50 when the movie starts. We don't learn any backstory on him but by the end we can drift to the conclusion that he may have been with Eli for a very long time. He loves her and tries to protect her, he kills…

What film did you guys watch?

Posted by Jake on April 12, 2011 at 5:30pm 1 Comment

Our lit circle decided to watch the film Once Bitten with an extremely young Jim Carrey. This film was horrible. I personally could not stand it. The vampiric elements were very rudementary. The once 'addition' if you will that the writers and directors took was with the female vampire as the main antogonist who needed to feed on a virgin male. The film is highly sexual and plays with the sexuality of teenagers and the sexual nature surrounding vampires to help add humor and drive…
